through the looking (glass)

Poetic/element form/structure: Identity poem by Lucille Clifton

Description: through the looking (glass) is an installation that interrogates and ruminates on the outward perceptions, we affirm, internally. Through poetry, collage, and workshopping, we explore what a reflection would say, if it had a history of being approached intentionally. E’mon examines the conquest of mapping autonomy, disestablishment of beauty, heritage & culture, and the effects of reimagined artifacts.

How To Play:  The poetry making component reviews Lucille Clifton’s "what the mirror said", which discusses ‘reflective conversations’ regarding how we view ourselves or our outward perceptions. Someone will always have a guessed definition of us and the bodies we vessel, but what are the final reminders we leave for ourselves? As you examine this piece and offering poems, we offer you these questions that could factor in your process of creating a prompt response:

1. what do you see when you look at yourself?, 2. how would you describe your reflection? 3. what would your younger self compare you to?, 4. what challenges do people face when approaching you?

Prompt: what does your reflection say?
